There are so many things in this community that feel soooo traditional. I've been to several churches that just didn't set right because it felt like they relied on their tradition instead of God's Will. But this morning's church I went to was different. It was called the Free Methodist Church. First impression: it was SWARMING with old folks! the preacher was older, the greeters were older.. not that there weren't children or young adults, but I was definitely in the minority there! The second thing I noticed was they were SUPER friendly. The friendliest church I'd been to, and this is the 5th church I've tried! At least 7 or 8 different people came up to me (all older) and shook my hand, asked me a slew of questions, and just loved on me a little. Now, it looked... traditional. And I admit, the service was also pretty classic. The worship was SO old school, like my home church WRCC in the EARLY 90s. I'm talking Lord I Lift Your Name On High old school! And then they broke out the hymns, and I was like, oh dang, but I was surprised at the unity and passion they began to sing with. There's just something about seeing someone so far along in life with a passion for Jesus. Because like, they've followed Him for so long and they've been so faithful. They're just bursting with faith... it makes me want to pick their brain for a very long time. And then the pastor delivered an awesome message about endurance, dying to yourself, suffering for Christ, and the idea of God continuing to walk with us not matter the circumstance. (I later found out the pastor had been a missionary in Africa for 30 years, made me like him even more!) It was the realest, most conventionally service I've ever been to. And at the end, we sang another hymn. I really liked it. People's hearts were in it, I could just tell. It was beautiful.
the Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you".
jeremiah 1:7
it may not be on the mountain’s height, or over the stormy sea;
it may not be at the battle’s front my Lord will have need of me;
but if by a still, small voice He calls to paths I do not know,
I’ll answer, dear Lord, with my hand in Yours,
I’ll go where You want me to go.
I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord,
o’er mountain, or plain, or sea;
I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord,
I’ll be what You want me to be.
perhaps today there are loving words which Jesus would have me speak;
there may be now, in the paths of sin, some wand’rer whom I should seek.
o Savior, if You will be my Guide, though dark and rugged the way,
my voice shall echo the message sweet,
I’ll say what You want me to say.
I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord,
o’er mountain, or plain, or sea;
I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord,
I’ll be what You want me to be.
There’s surely somewhere a lowly place in earth’s harvest fields so wide,
where I may labor through life’s short day for Jesus, the Crucified.
so, trusting my all unto Your care, I know You always love me!
I’ll do Your will with a heart sincere,
I’ll be what You want me to be.
I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord,
o’er mountain, or plain, or sea;
I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord,
I’ll be what You want me to be.
